Privacy policy
1. Overview
This policy explains what happens to your personal data when you visit The Path Edition (thepathedition.club, also reachable as thepathedition.world) or otherwise interact with us. Personal data is any information that can identify you personally.

3. Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted on WordPress.com, operated by Automattic Inc., 60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA. When you open a page, the provider automatically collects and stores information in server log files that your browser transmits — browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, host name, time of the request and IP address. This data is processed on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in the technically faultless presentation and security of the site. A data processing agreement is in place with Automattic. Data may be transferred to the USA; the transfer is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and, in addition, on standard contractual clauses.
4. Cookies and consent management
We use cookies and comparable technologies. Cookies that are strictly necessary for operating the site are used on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR and § 25 (2) TDDDG. Everything else — in particular statistics — is only loaded after your explicit consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, § 25 (1) TDDDG), which we obtain via the consent banner provided by the Complianz plugin.
Complianz stores your choice in local cookies (cmplz_*) and keeps a record of your consent so that we can demonstrate it. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time via the link in the banner or on our cookie policy page. A detailed list of all cookies used can be found there.
The Polylang plugin sets a functional cookie (pll_language) that remembers your language choice.
5. Google Site Kit and Google Analytics
We use the Google Site Kit plugin. Google Analytics 4 is connected through Site Kit and active on this site (measurement ID G-HM5B6XL056). The tag runs with Google Consent Mode: before you consent it sets no cookies and stores no identifiers; analytics storage is only switched on once you accept statistics in the cookie banner.
Subject to your consent, we use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. It is integrated through the Google Site Kit plugin. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to analyse how visitors use the site — pages viewed, time on page, approximate location, device and browser. Your IP address is shortened by Google within the EU before any further processing.
Legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. The data is stored for the retention period configured in our Google Analytics account. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA; the transfer is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. Further information: policies.google.com/privacy.
6. Jetpack and WordPress.com services
This site uses Jetpack, a plugin by Automattic Inc. The following functions process personal data:
- Jetpack Statistics: page views are recorded in an aggregated form (stats.wp.com, pixel.wp.com). Legal basis: your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR.
- Image delivery via the Jetpack content delivery network (i0.wp.com, s0.wp.com). Your IP address is transmitted to Automattic so the image can be delivered. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — fast, reliable delivery of large image files.
- Gravatar (secure.gravatar.com): if an avatar is displayed, a hashed form of the email address is transmitted to Automattic. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.
- Contact form and newsletter subscriptions, described separately below.
Further information: automattic.com/privacy.
7. Contact form and email
If you write to us through the contact form or by email, we process the data you provide — name, email address, your message and the time of submission — solely to answer your enquiry and for any follow-up questions. Legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your enquiry relates to a contract, otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The form is provided by Jetpack; submissions are stored in this website’s database and forwarded to our mailbox.
To filter spam we use Akismet, a service of Automattic Inc. Akismet checks the content of submissions together with the IP address and the browser identifier. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — protection against automated spam. We delete enquiries once they have been dealt with, unless statutory retention periods apply.
8. Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we process your email address to send it. Delivery runs through the subscription service of Jetpack / WordPress.com (Automattic Inc.). We use the double opt-in procedure: you receive a confirmation email and the subscription only becomes active once you confirm it. We log the registration and confirmation so that we can demonstrate consent.
Legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the end of every newsletter; your address is then deleted from the distribution list. Automattic Inc. is based in the USA, so your email address is processed there as well — see section 10 on transfers to third countries. Apart from your email address we do not require any further details for the newsletter.
9. Embedded content and affiliate links
Where articles contain embedded third-party content (for example videos or maps), that content is only loaded after your consent; until then a placeholder is shown. Opening such content may transmit personal data to the provider concerned.
Some articles may contain affiliate links, including links to Amazon. If you buy something through such a link we receive a commission; the price does not change for you. Amazon sets cookies in order to trace the origin of orders. Details on Amazon’s data processing: Amazon privacy notice. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
10. Share buttons (AddToAny)
Every article carries a “Send to friends and family” link. It opens a sharing menu operated by AddToAny LLC, USA. The script for that menu is only loaded once you have accepted marketing cookies in the cookie banner — before that nothing is requested from AddToAny and no data is sent there. If you consent and open the menu, your IP address and the address of the page you are sharing are transmitted to AddToAny, and to the service you then choose. Legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, which you can withdraw at any time through the cookie settings. AddToAny privacy information: addtoany.com/privacy.
11. Transfers to third countries
Several of the services described above are operated by companies based in the USA. Where personal data is transferred there, the transfer is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for certified providers and otherwise on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Despite these safeguards, we cannot rule out that authorities in the USA may access such data.
12. Your rights
You have the right to:
- information about the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
- rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR),
- erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) and restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR),
- withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR).
To exercise these rights, an informal message to info@thepathedition.world is enough. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is: Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, Alt-Moabit 59-61, 10555 Berlin.
13. Retention
We store personal data for as long as the respective purpose exists or as long as we are legally required to keep it. After that it is deleted.
14. TLS encryption
This site uses TLS encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content.
15. Changes to this policy
We may adapt this policy so that it always reflects current legal requirements or changes to our services. The current version is always available on this page.
